Objective
- Research and development in speech technology or natural language processing.
Education
- Ph.D. - Linguistics - University of Delaware (1997)
- M.A. - Linguistics - University of Delaware (1993)
- Bachelor - Electrical Engineering - University of Delaware (1982)
Experience
- Speech Research, Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children, Wilmington DE. (8/94-present)
- Designed, implemented, and tested a natural language
processing front end for a diphone
speech synthesizer. The NLP front end accepts unrestricted text input,
and uses several rule systems to calculate lexical, part of
speech, and prosodic information.
- Ported the synthesizer from
UNIX (Sun-OS) to Windows 95.
- Developed a Spanish language front end for the diphone synthesizer.
- Supported the designers of the automatic diphone extractor, the automatic speech
labeler, and the inventory builder in developing and testing
these utilities, and integrating them into the process of
capturing voices for speech synthesis.
- Linguistics Department, University of Delaware, Newark DE. (11/91-8/94 and 2/95-5/95)
- Instructor for Laboratory Phonetics and Introduction to Linguistics
- Research Assistant in a phonetic study of English, stress, and focus
- Allen Bradley, Highland Heights, OH. (4/90-8/91)
- Designed and maintained CNC controller software.
- Worked in Turin, Italy for Olivetti OSAI/AB joint venture (6/90-11/90)
- Raytheon Equipment Division, Marlboro, MA. (8/87-4/90 and 1/82-6/84)
- Designed software for RF and EHF modems in C, Ada, and 80286 assembly.
- Designed microprogram and 8086 based plasma panel controllers.
- Fenwal Incoporated, Ashland MA. (6/84-8/87)
- Developed software for fire and overheat protection systems for aircraft
