Speech Communication Journal

This year, in cooperation with the journal Speech Communication (http://www.elsevier.nl/locate/specom), a number of papers will be chosen by the scientific committee for possible publication in an expanded format and reviewed version as "recommended by the ICSLP 96 Scientific Committee" papers in the Journal. Authors wishing to have their papers considered for such a publication must be willing to submit an extended version of their ICSLP paper within 6 months after the Conference for regular editorial review (note that audio files associated with papers can also be provided: audio files corresponding to published papers are from now on available on the Speech Communication web site). Please indicate interest by contacting the conference organizers via the conference email or surface mail address.

ICSLP `98

ICSLP `98 will be held at the Sydney Convention Centre, Sydney, Australia, between November 30 - December 4, 1998. It will be hosted by the Australian Speech Science & Technology Association (ASSTA) Incorporated.

ASSTA invites all participants at ICSLP 96 to Australia for the 1998 conference. An exciting technical programme is planned, and a not to be forgotten social programme. We aim to provide technical challenge and debate as well as generating a friendly learning experience.

The Convention Centre is located in a complex of restaurants and shops on an expansive pedestrian peninsula at the waterfront of the celebrated Sydney Harbour and only a few minutes walk or monorail ride from the city centre.

Australia will be in early summer in December and there are lots of things to see and do. You will be able to combine the conference with numerous holiday opportunities - in Sydney sample Aussie beach culture, a concert in the Opera House, explore the vast harbour, or travel further to visit the Great Barrier Reef, Uluru, Kakadu, the Outback, see sheep shearing, visit our vineyards, go bushwalking, go to Tasmania where the last great unexplored wilderness still exists, help spot Thylacine, see the Southern Cross and get a clear view of the Milky Way at night. In fact, why not stay for Christmas and have a BBQ on the beach for a different Christmas dinner?
